Fedora 21 X86_64 Nvidia Driver install

Rate this Entry
For reference, steps to follow to install Nvidia proprietary drivers on Fedora 21:

Post FC21install:

Code:
sudo yum update
Make sure to install steam and run steam so that it autoupdates once prior to installing the Nvidia driver as steam will crash after driver install otherwise. Steam needs to run and update with the Nouveau driver installed first. It should then fail with a libGL.so.1 error. Re-run steam after the Nvidia driver install and it will finish the update and launch steam.

Code:
sudo yum install steam
Code:
sudo yum install gcc kernel-devel
Code:
sudo echo "blacklist nouveau" >> /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf
Code:
sudo vi /etc/sysconfig/grub
Append grub with rd.driver.blacklist=nouveau

EG: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="rd.lvm.lv=fedora/swap rd.lvm.lv=fedora/root rd.driver.blacklist=nouveau rhgb quiet"

Make the new grub config:

Code:
sudo grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/grub2/grub.cfg
Set default run level to 3 prior to rebooting:

Code:
sudo systemctl set-default multi-user.target
Reboot:

Code:
sudo reboot
Once the system has rebooted(cmd line only) login and install Nvidia driver:

Set permission to executable on installer file:

Code:
chmod +x NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64*.run
Run the installer:

Code:
sudo ./NVIDIA-Linux-x86_*.run
Accept the prompts for the license, 32 bit libraries, and to run xconf

Set system default back to run level 5

Code:
sudo systemctl set-default graphical.target
Reboot

Code:
sudo reboot
